The Gangtey Nature Trail in Phobjikha Valley is one of the most beautiful attractions in Bhutan. The stunning and serene Phobjikha Valley is a treat for nature and trek lovers with its pristine landscapes and picturesque vistas. Phobjikha Valley is home to the endangered black-necked cranes.

The Gangtey Nature Trail is an incomparable and amazing journey that combines nature, diverse flora and fauna, a unique ecosystem, and culture. Commence the nature trail from Gangtey Monastery descending through lush forests of pine, bamboo, and Yushania Microphylla and admiring the scenic vistas. The peaceful ambiance and distant mountain views make it more attractive. The Valley welcomes you with different facets of nature. The colorful rhododendrons in the spring while snow-covered a few places during the winter.

As you walk further through tall bushes and jade-hued bamboo get sights of small Lakhang village houses. The houses are built in the Bhutanese style and are also used as homestays for guests. Especially, in the spring seasons the valley is covered with colorful rhododendrons enhancing the beauty of the valley. The valley offers the perfect setting for photography.

The valley is a breeding Centre for Black-necked cranes where visitors can see them feeding on Yushania Microphylla from late October to mid-February. If lucky get sights of Tibetan fox and Red Panda as well.

Spring season (Mar-May) offers lush greenery with good weather.

How to get to Gangtey in Phobjikha Valley?

Getting to Gangtey in Phobjikha Valley is via Thimphu following the route of Punakha. Relish the scenery and navigate through beautiful villages. The estimated time is about 5 to 6 hours.
Alternatively, visitors can stay for a day in Punakha for exploration and drive to Gangtey the next day which takes about 4.15 hours.
