Sera Monastery

One of the most prominent Gelugpa monasteries and an institution cultivating eminent monks, Sera Monastery is the center of Tibetan Buddhism. Lying in the North of Lhasa, the Monastery consists of three colleges within it. A complex structure full of architecture and management brilliance, this Monastery is responsible for some 19 hermitages. Founded by the disciple of Je Tsongkhapa, Jamchen Chojey of Sakya Yeshe of Zel Gungtang in 1419 AD,  the Monastery holds a long history of Tibet in it.

A vibe of satisfaction and fulfillment runs through your body after hearing the Echoing of the Buddhist chants in Tsokchen Hall. The activity which Sera Monastery is famous for is Buddhist debating. Also, performed in the Debating courtyard these debating sessions provide you with insights into Tibetan Buddhism. In the main hall, you can observe the sculptures with the golden touch of the architects. Similarly, in the Sera Library, you can read about the history and components of Tibetan Buddhism and the Monastery. One is evident to feel heavenly Buddhism once you enter the region of Sera Monastery.

A sera Kora(circling the monastery) will provide you the knowledge about the components and complex yet beautiful architecture of the Monastery.
